Black is the most demanding colour for upholstery. It reveals every contour, every seam, every decision a designer made about proportion and form. On the F510, it is revelatory, stripping away distraction to expose the pure sculptural logic of Geoffrey Harcourt's masterwork.

Designed in the 1960s and produced by Artifort continuously since, the F510 has earned its place among the most important Dutch furniture designs of the twentieth century. This particular example dates from around 2000, placing it in the later production era when Artifort's manufacturing standards remained exacting and the design had been refined through decades of production experience.

The original black wool upholstery is in excellent condition, with the fabric's texture providing just enough visual interest to prevent the monochrome from becoming austere. The swivel mechanism operates with smooth, quiet precision. The high back and enveloping arms create the signature F510 experience: total comfort with complete visual composure.

Harcourt's genius with the F510 lay in understanding that a great chair does not merely support the body but engages it. The curves follow human anatomy rather than imposing geometric ideals upon it, resulting in a chair that feels intuitively right from the moment you sit down.

In a minimalist interior, this black F510 becomes a sculptural anchor. In a more eclectic space, it provides the kind of quiet authority that only considered design can deliver.
