Carlo Moretti Murano Glass Vases, Set of 2

This pair of Carlo Moretti Murano glass vases is a small masterclass in restraint and drama at once. Both are blown in milky white cased glass, then wrapped in broad, liquid swirls of deep aubergine that seem to have been frozen mid-pour. One is a tall, tapering bottle form; the other a lower, double-gourd silhouette — different shapes cut from the same painterly language, made to be shown together.

Carlo Moretti is one of the great names of modern Murano. From his furnace on the island near Venice, founded in 1958, he built a reputation for clean, contemporary forms that let the glass itself do the talking — no gilding, no fuss, just colour, light and impeccable craft. Both of these vases still carry the original 'Carlo Moretti Murano Italia' label, the kind of honest provenance collectors look for.

Hold one to the light and the magic shows itself: the white body glows softly while the aubergine swirls deepen almost to black at their core, every wave unique to that single gather of molten glass. The walls are satisfyingly heavy, the rims clean, the surfaces smooth and bright. The taller bottle vase stands 18 cm high and 7 cm across, while its rounder companion measures 11 cm high and 9 cm across. Both are in very good condition, ready to display exactly as they are.
