The LC2 is arguably the most famous armchair of the twentieth century. Designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, it distilled the modernist ideal into a single, uncompromising form: a chrome-plated steel cage holding plump, geometric cushions. This is an authentic Cassina production from the 1990s, numbered and verified.
The blue fabric is rare. Most LC2s appear in black leather or neutral tones, making this colour variant a distinctive find for collectors who appreciate the unexpected. The fabric shows honest wear, including some attention from a previous owner's cat, which adds character while leaving the chrome frame in excellent condition. The tubular steel structure, polished to Cassina's exacting standards, remains pristine.
This is a project piece for the right buyer. The frame, the most valuable and irreplaceable element, is perfect. New upholstery in leather, wool, or fabric transforms this numbered Cassina original into a showpiece at a fraction of the cost of a new production model.
The LC2's history is well documented. Originally created for the Villa Church in Ville d'Avray and first produced by Thonet, the design was revived by Cassina in 1965 under exclusive licence from the Le Corbusier Foundation. Each Cassina LC2 carries a serial number and certificate of authenticity, making it a verified piece of design history.
Few objects in a room carry the cultural weight of an LC2. It is architecture in miniature, a manifesto you can sit in, and proof that the most radical ideas, given enough time, become timeless.
