There's a particular quality to Swiss neck leather that you feel before you see it. It's thicker than conventional hides — dense, slightly waxy to the touch, with a surface that develops a rich, living patina over the decades. The DS-125 makes this extraordinary material the entire story.

Designed by German industrial designer Gerd Lange in 1978, the DS-125 represents De Sede at its most restrained. Where many De Sede models from this era leaned into bold, sculptural forms, Lange took the opposite approach: clean geometry, precise proportions, and an unwavering focus on material quality. The beech wood frame provides structure; the leather does everything else.

What makes the DS-125 increasingly collectible is simple scarcity. De Sede discontinued the model years ago, and finding examples in this condition — leather intact, frame solid, cushions still supportive — becomes harder with each passing year. The neck leather has aged exactly as it should: deepening in colour, softening at the stress points, telling the story of four decades without a single apology.

De Sede's story begins in 1962 in Klingnau, a small town in the Swiss canton of Aargau, where the company started as a saddlery. That heritage in leather craft runs through everything they produce. The neck leather used on the DS-125 comes from the thickest part of the bull hide — the area around the neck and shoulders — and is minimally treated to preserve its natural grain. It's the reason a De Sede sofa from the 1970s often looks better today than a new sofa will look in five years.

Lange understood something that many designers overlook — that a sofa's primary job is to invite you to sit down. The DS-125 does this effortlessly. Low-slung, generous in its proportions, and impossibly comfortable, it's the kind of piece that anchors a room the moment it arrives. At VINTZ, we ship every piece in a handcrafted wooden crate with full transport insurance — because a sofa like this deserves to arrive in perfect condition.
