This is the DS-142 in its most complete form — a pristine example of Winfried Totzek's award-winning design for De Sede, accompanied by its original matching pillow. Finding a DS-142 in very good condition is noteworthy; finding one with its original accessories elevates it to a genuine collector's piece.
The design remains as compelling as it was in the 1980s. A sculpted steel frame cradles a leather-upholstered seat and backrest that adjust from upright wing chair to fully reclined chaise longue. The armrests pivot independently, the backrest moves through multiple angles, and every mechanical element operates with the smooth precision you expect from Swiss engineering. The leather has a refined, even appearance across the entire surface — no cracks, no significant wear marks, just the subtle warmth of well-maintained hide.
This example is in very good condition throughout. The leather is supple and clean, the steel frame shows its original finish, and the reclining mechanism functions perfectly. The original pillow — matched in leather and stitching — adds both comfort and completeness. The chair has clearly been well cared for during its lifetime.
Dr. Winfried Totzek brought a physician's understanding of the human body to the De Sede design studio, and the DS-142 reflects that knowledge in every curve and angle. The wing-back silhouette provides lateral head support, the seat depth accommodates various body positions, and the adjustable elements allow personalisation that most chairs of this era simply could not offer. De Sede's craftsmen in Klingnau then executed Totzek's vision with their characteristic precision and material quality.
With its original pillow, smooth mechanics and excellent condition, this DS-142 represents the model at its best — an investment in daily comfort that also happens to be a significant piece of Swiss design history.
