The EA125 is the reclining lounge version of the Eames Aluminum Group — arguably the most influential office and lounge seating programme ever designed. This particular example, originally produced by Herman Miller in the 1960s, has been given a distinctive new life through reupholstery in Kvadrat Tonus Red wool, transforming a familiar icon into something genuinely one-of-a-kind.
The aluminium frame retains its original elegance — those signature cast side panels that suspend the seat fabric in tension, creating a chair that is visually light yet structurally robust. The new Kvadrat Tonus upholstery adds warmth and texture in a bold red that contrasts beautifully with the polished aluminium. The reclining mechanism allows smooth adjustment to your preferred lounging angle. This edition comes without armrests, giving it a sleeker, more sculptural profile than the standard configuration.
The chair is in good condition. The aluminium frame shows its age honestly, the reclining mechanism functions smoothly, and the Kvadrat reupholstery is fresh and pristine. The combination of a vintage Herman Miller frame with contemporary Danish textile creates a piece that belongs in both the history of design and a modern living space.
Charles and Ray Eames designed the Aluminum Group in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana. The programme went on to become one of Herman Miller's most enduring successes, produced continuously from the late 1950s onward. The EA125 lounge version brought the series' engineering principles — tensioned fabric suspended between aluminium side panels — from the office into the living room.
Reupholstered in Kvadrat's renowned Tonus wool, this EA125 bridges two great design traditions: American mid-century engineering and Scandinavian textile craft. It is at once familiar and surprising, classic and contemporary — the kind of piece that earns its place in any seriously considered interior.
