The sofa version of the FK6720 extends one of the most celebrated Danish designs of the 1960s into a generous two-person seating format. At 143 centimetres wide, it takes the FK6720's signature combination of stainless steel and leather and amplifies it into something even more commanding.
The continuous stainless steel frame sweeps from front to back in an unbroken curve, creating a structural line that is both minimal and dramatic. Thick leather upholstery stretches across this frame, held taut to produce a clean, architectural surface. The proportions are characteristically precise — Fabricius and Kastholm were meticulous about the relationship between seat depth, backrest angle and armrest height. The result is a sofa that invites comfortable, relaxed sitting while maintaining a visual sharpness that lesser designs sacrifice for softness.
This FK6720 sofa is in good condition with wear consistent with its age. The leather remains supple and intact, the stainless steel frame retains its polish, and the structure is solid throughout. The piece functions well as daily seating while maintaining its sculptural integrity.
Preben Fabricius and Jorgen Kastholm designed the FK6720 series during their most productive decade of collaboration in the 1960s. Kill International, the German manufacturer, produced the range in limited quantities — a constraint that has made original examples increasingly scarce and valuable. The FK6720's clean lines and material honesty place it squarely within the canon of Danish modernism, alongside work by Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjaerholm and Hans Wegner.
The FK6720 sofa is a rare opportunity to acquire a significant piece of Scandinavian design history that also serves as genuinely comfortable everyday furniture. It pairs naturally with the FK6720 lounge chair and works equally well as a standalone statement in any interior that values clarity, craftsmanship and restrained elegance.
