Few chairs carry the effortless authority of a Georg Thams swivel armchair. Designed in the 1970s for A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik, this pair embodies everything that made Danish modern furniture a global design language — comfort elevated to an art form, materials chosen for how they age, and proportions that feel inevitable rather than designed.
The black leather has developed the kind of patina that money cannot buy and time alone provides. It is supple, characterful, and warm to the touch. The generous cushioning wraps around the sitter, while the solid swivel base allows for that satisfying rotation — turning slowly to face the room, a guest, or simply a better angle on the evening light.
Both chairs are in very good condition for their age, well over fifty years old now. The leather shows attractive wear rather than damage — the hallmark of quality hides that were built to improve with use. The swivel mechanisms remain smooth and responsive.
Georg Thams was part of a generation of Danish designers who understood that luxury is not about ornament but about the quality of the sit. His work for Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik — alongside contemporaries designing for Fritz Hansen and Erik Jørgensen — helped define the golden era of Scandinavian lounge seating.
These are boardroom chairs that found their way into living rooms, or living room chairs that could command a boardroom. Either way, they bring a quiet, leather-scented confidence to any space they occupy. Price is per piece.
