Italian lighting design in the 1970s was fearless. While Scandinavian makers refined their organic forms and German manufacturers perfected engineered precision, the Italians went big — and few went bigger than Goffredo Reggiani.

This arc lamp is a statement piece in the truest sense. Standing 222 cm tall with a 200 cm reach, it commands the space it occupies. The chrome-plated steel frame sweeps upward in a graceful arc, carrying three independently adjustable shades to their destination above your sofa, reading chair, or dining table.

What elevates this beyond mere spectacle is the practical intelligence of the design. Each of the three light sources switches on and off independently, allowing you to sculpt the light in your room — bright and ambient for entertaining, soft and focused for reading, or anything in between. It's theatrical lighting for everyday life.

The arc lamp as a typology emerged in the early 1960s, most famously with the Castiglioni brothers' Arco for Flos in 1962. But where the Arco is restrained and architectural, Reggiani's interpretation is unapologetically theatrical. The triple-head design adds a layer of visual complexity that single-shade arc lamps simply can't match — and from a practical standpoint, three adjustable light sources provide far more versatility than one.

Finding a Reggiani arc lamp in this condition is genuinely difficult. The chrome retains its reflective depth, the mechanical joints operate smoothly, and — critically — all three lights function perfectly. These lamps were produced in relatively small numbers by Reggiani Illuminazione in their workshop outside Milan, and most surviving examples show significant wear or have lost functionality in one or more light sources.
