The marriage of warm bamboo and cool chrome should not work — and yet here it is, working beautifully, eight times over. The Eliot chair, produced by IKEA in 1999 as part of their now-collectible special series, is a masterclass in material contrast: natural and industrial, organic and geometric, humble and surprisingly refined.
The woven bamboo seat and backrest create intricate geometric patterns that catch the light differently throughout the day. The chrome-plated steel frames provide structural rigour and a visual counterpoint — sharp where the bamboo is soft, reflective where the bamboo is matte. And they stack, which is the kind of practical intelligence that separates Scandinavian design from mere decoration.
This set of eight is in good condition with honest wear consistent with over two decades of use. The bamboo weaving remains intact, and the chrome frames retain their structural integrity. These chairs have aged gracefully — as well-designed objects tend to do.
The IKEA Collectables series represented an ambitious moment for the Swedish giant: limited-edition pieces that brought genuine design thinking to accessible price points. The Eliot has since become one of the most sought-after models from that programme, appearing in design publications and vintage dealers' collections across Europe.
Eight matching chairs offer rare flexibility — enough for a generous dining table, or split between a kitchen and a garden terrace. They bring warmth, texture, and a conversation-starting design pedigree to any gathering space.
