Italian design in the 1970s had a particular talent for turning everyday furniture into something theatrical, and this set of four dining chairs is a perfect example. Finished in a deep, dark red lacquer that sits somewhere between burgundy and oxblood — the colour of a serious Italian wine — they make a statement before anyone has even sat down.

The chairs are pure sculpture. Their backs play at architecture: a broad, T-shaped splat suspended within a slim lacquered frame, clean geometric lines that feel structural rather than decorative. Round tapered legs narrow to small ball feet, reading like exclamation marks beneath each seat. Original black skai upholstery covers the seats — worn with the kind of honest patina that comes from fifty years of actual dinners, actual conversations, actual life.

All four chairs are in good overall condition. The wear is genuine and consistent — not disguised but honoured. The frames are structurally sound, the lacquer retains its warmth and lustre where it counts, and the skai seats show gentle, even ageing. Minor surface marks reflect five decades of daily use rather than neglect.

The design language speaks directly to the Italian radical design movement of the 1970s, when makers in Milan, Turin and beyond were experimenting with bold colour, geometric form and industrial materials. The architectural quality of the backs and the confident use of lacquer place these chairs firmly in that tradition, recalling the work of designers like Claudio Salocchi, who brought sculptural ambition to domestic furniture.

As a set of four, these chairs create an instant atmosphere — equally at home around a dining table or arranged as sculpture in a hallway or study. They belong in a space that values personality over convention. Like every Vintz piece, they are carefully selected, honestly described, and shipped worldwide in a custom-built wooden crate, fully insured.
