The Confidential sofa is one of those designs that stops you in your tracks. Created by Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti in 1972, its sculptural backrest and deeply considered cushion forms elevate a two-seater sofa into something approaching wearable architecture. It has been one of Saporiti's best-selling designs since its introduction, and the reasons are immediately apparent.
The silhouette is dramatic yet inviting. The curved back wraps around the seating area with a protective, almost embrace-like quality, while the cushions are shaped to support the body at precisely the right points. The proportions are generous without being excessive — this is a sofa designed for conversation, for intimacy, for the kind of relaxed evening that makes you forget the time.
This example has been freshly reupholstered in cognac leather, giving it the warm, rich tone that is perhaps the most classic pairing with Italian furniture of this era. The leather is supple and well-finished, and it will develop an increasingly beautiful patina with use. The structure beneath is solid and true, ready for decades more of service.
Alberto Rosselli (1921–1976) was one of the most influential Italian designers of the postwar period, known for his work across architecture, industrial design, and furniture. His designs for Saporiti — a Milanese manufacturer with a reputation for progressive, architect-driven furniture — represent some of his most tactile and emotionally resonant work. The Confidential, in particular, demonstrates his ability to create forms that are simultaneously sculptural and deeply comfortable.
In a living room, a library, or a private study, this Confidential sofa in cognac leather becomes the gravitational centre of the space. It invites you to sit down, lean back, and settle in — the highest compliment any sofa can earn.
