This Jasba Keramik vase is West German pottery at its sunny, graphic best. The body glows in a warm golden yellow, brushed through with horizontal bands of soft brown that catch every turn of the potter's wheel. Around its widest point runs the detail that makes it sing: a bold meander of brown, white and cobalt blue, hand-painted in a stylised Greek-key rhythm that feels both ancient and unmistakably mid-century.
It still wears its original 'Jasba Keramik — Form und Farbe' foil label, a small badge of provenance from one of the great names of post-war German ceramics. Jasba, based in the Westerwald, was part of the remarkable wave of West German potteries — Scheurich, Bay, Carstens among them — that turned everyday vases into bold, affordable design through the 1950s and 60s.
Run a thumb across the surface and you feel the matte, lightly textured glaze give way to the smooth painted band; tip it to the light and the interior reveals a glossy emerald-green glaze, a classic Jasba touch. The proportions are generous and confident — a real shelf presence rather than a timid little pot. This example is in very good condition, its colours still vivid and its label intact.
West German pottery has become one of the most collected corners of mid-century design, prized for exactly this kind of fearless colour and pattern. A piece like this looks wonderful alone, better still grouped, and pairs naturally with another period vase such as our Scheurich West German vase, or the rest of our curated vintage objects.
Like every piece at Vintz, it was hand-picked for character and condition rather than restored, then shipped worldwide in a custom wooden crate, fully insured. Fill it with dried grasses or let it stand as pure colour — either way, it brings a shot of 1960s optimism to any room.
