This Jean-Pierre Vitrac Porte Manteaux for Manade is a true icon of French product design — and one of a matching pair we currently have available. Vitrac, born in 1944, is among the most quietly influential figures in French post-war design, with work in the permanent collections of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His career runs from the legendary Airborne AA chair to luminaires for Disderot and tableware for Villeroy & Boch, and the Porte Manteaux remains one of his most instantly recognisable objects.

The rack is height-adjustable, extending to 185 centimetres, and built from lacquered metal and chrome with Vitrac's signature precision. The chromed uprights catch the light while the graphic black hooks step up the frame in pairs — practical, sculptural and deceptively simple, exactly the qualities that define great French design of the era.

This example is in good condition and fully functional: the telescoping mechanism slides smoothly and locks securely, and the chrome and lacquer have been well preserved. It stands stable and ready for daily use in a hallway, studio or open-plan space.
