This handmade Italian teak table speaks the unmistakable language of Tobia Scarpa's Pigreco furniture. We acquired it alongside a set of three Pigreco armchairs, and it shares their whole vocabulary: flat, blade-like legs pierced with a long slot and a keyhole detail, framing the open space beneath the top rather than hiding it. Joined low by a sculptural stretcher, they turn a modest table into something closer to a piece of cabinetmaker's architecture.
Look at the top and the craftsmanship keeps rewarding you. Exposed through-tenons march across each corner in a neat row, the joinery left proudly visible the way the finest Italian workshops of the 1960s intended. There is no veneer trickery here — just solid teak, warm and honey-toned, its grain running unbroken across a softly rounded rectangular surface.
Run a hand along an edge and you feel the precision of it: crisp chamfers, snug joints, the faint give of a top that has been used and loved. The piece is in good condition, with only minor, honest signs of age — a small mark here and there that simply confirms it was made to live in a real home, not behind glass.
We cannot document this table to Scarpa with certainty, so we offer it honestly as the work of a skilled Italian craftsman, very much in the Pigreco spirit — its design, its joinery and the company it arrived in all point the same way. It sits beautifully as a coffee or centre table among low seating, and pairs naturally with sculptural Italian pieces such as our Paolo Buffa bar cabinet, or the rest of our vintage design furniture.
Like every piece at Vintz, it was hand-picked for character and condition rather than restored, then shipped worldwide in a custom wooden crate, fully insured. Set a stack of art books and a single ceramic on it, and the exposed joinery does the rest — a daily reminder that good design never needs to hide how it is made.
